Sandbox and production environments

Sandbox mode is a stand-alone environment that includes all features of the production environment (live mode) except for user authorization and the ability to make real payments.

In sandbox mode, you can make payments using any payment method available in the payment UI, except real bank cards. For testing, use the test bank cards from the list. When making payment in sandbox mode, no funds are deducted from real accounts. For testing with test bank cards and PayPal, you can follow available scenarios.

After making the payment, you receive a receipt identical to the one sent after completing real payments. The receipt is sent to the email passed in the token request. If you enabled webhooks in your project, you will also receive a webhook about a successful payment.

To see transactions made in sandbox mode:

  1. Open your Publisher Account.
  2. Go to Accounting > Transaction registry.
  3. Check the Show test transactions box.

Refer to API reference for sandbox to find the list of webhooks and API calls provided for sandbox mode.
When experiencing issues with work in sandbox mode, contact Xsolla customer support.

Switching between environments

Before you sign a contract with Xsolla, testing your payment process is only available in sandbox mode. In case of any errors, see their descriptions.

To access sandbox mode, pass the “sandbox”: true parameter in the request body for obtaining the token (the call for obtaining a token depends on your integration scenario). To open the payment UI, use the following URL:, where TOKEN is the received token.

To switch to production environment:

  1. Sign the licensing agreement with Xsolla in Publisher Account in the Agreements and taxes > Agreements section.
  2. Remove the “sandbox”: true parameter from the request body when obtaining a token.
  3. Open the payment UI using the following link:, where TOKEN is the received token.

After the first real payment is made, a strict sandbox payment policy takes effect. Payments made in sandbox mode are available only to users who are specified in Publisher Account in the Company settings > Users section.

Options for payment process testing
